Smokey Feet

The name Smokey Feet has been around since 2010, but the festival was born long before that. Starting as “The Amsterdam Lindy Hop Workshop” it mainly attracted people from the local scene, after changing to Smokey Feet it started to gain more popularity in Europe and at the moment we attract people from all over the world.
Our aim is to give Lindy Hop dancers a truly amazing experience every year and with our dedicated team of organizers this seems to work out every year! The organizers Hakon, Jaro, Sanne and Yara would be glad to welcome you in Amsterdam to enjoy five days and nights of amazing music, dancing and happiness!

Please note that the classes and parties will take place in the eastern part of Amsterdam and in Diemen. When you are looking for a place to stay, please keep this in mind and try to find a place in those areas. All our venues are easy to reach by public transport and bike.

You can post a message on our Facebook page specifically meant for hosting. It’s both for people who are looking for a place to stay and people in Amsterdam who have a bed available.

Finding your way around town

There are over 800,000 bicycles in Amsterdam. That’s more bikes than people! Cycling in Amsterdam is a way of life, made easier by the city’s unbeatable network of bike paths, cycle routes and flat landscape. Amsterdam regularly comes out on top in lists of the world’s most cycle-friendly cities, and there’s no finer way to explore the city’s streets, canals and attractions than by pedal power. Cycling in Amsterdam is practical, enjoyable and healthy – so join the locals and hop on your bike. Renting a bike is one of the best ways to get around town. Since our venues are located at biking distance from each other it will be easiest to rent a bike as well! We made a nice map with all of the venues and other useful locations, you can get a larger version here.

Biking is a cheap and easy solution to making your way around town. We have listed some bike-rental shops that are also in the East of Amsterdam. There is a large public transport network in Amsterdam. However, if you want to stay out late, renting a bike is the better option.

We have a facebook group for the communication between dancers who like to host and dancers who are looking for a place to stay.

Yes! Events like these are run by volunteers and we can use all the help we can get! If you want to volunteer, please contact us and we will hook you up!

Yes, we will have a Jack and Jill and a Strictly Lindy competition. We will open online registration for this a few weeks before the event. If there are spots left you can also register for the competitions at the party on Friday evening.

Our workshop venue and party venues are in the East of Amsterdam and Diemen. Try to find a place around this area so you won’t have to travel far! Also see the Amsterdam section of this page for more information about finding a place to stay.

Everyone with a full pass.

You can either pay by iDEAL or Paypal

For full pass: When you complete the first step of registration and are off the waiting list you’ll receive an email with payment information. Make sure you pay before the expiration date and please note that an international bank transfer takes a few days.

For party pass: you pay right away during your registration in the web shop.

We want to make sure that everyone is in the right level. To ensure this, an audition for the highest levels was the option we chose. At other events, and in previous years at Smokey Feet, there was an audition before classes started. This is very time-consuming, we want to make sure that everyone can dance as much as possible during the weekend so doing the audition process before the event starts will ensure this!

Everybody starts out on the waiting list so your registration is initially put on hold until we can confirm that we can offer you a spot. Once a spot opens up you will receive an email. We hope to send out the first confirmations within a week after registration opens.

No, it’s only possible to register as a couple if you both fill in the name of your partner and register on the same day.

You don’t have to sign up with a partner, but signing up with a partner increases your chance to leave the waiting list. We do have some spots for single leads and follows in every level.

Registration opens:

  • Full passes: January 6th at 8pm C.E.T.
  • Party passes: February 10th at 8pm C.E.T.
